About us!
Chiripó Oasis is owned and run by a Costarican family. We have been cattle farmers and involved in agriculture for many years. We purchased our property over three decades ago, incurring significant debt to our family with minimal Income. On several occasions, we were close to selling the property due to the challenging economic situation for farmers in Costa Rica and the lack of financial opportunities. However, we refused to give up our way of life and worked hard to keep our property until now.
As the land was hilly, we soon realized cattle farming was no longer an option, so we grew coffee. Unfortunately, this required us to cut down many native trees, which we learned was not good for the environment or our health. Around ten years ago, we decided to stop expanding the coffee plantation and reduce the amount of pesticides we use. We also started planting trees and working with local reforestation organizations to learn how to repair the damage we had caused. However, these organizations focused mainly on timber trees, so we started our reforestation program to bring back native wildlife and trees.
Nowadays, we take pride in our organic coffee and bananas and are working to use all the organic materials produced on our farm to make natural fertilizers and compost for our plants. This change has brought many benefits to the farm, including an increase in the number of birds, bees, and other pollinators, as well as mammals such as Pecaries, agouties, Tayra, White Face Capuchins, Coatis, KinkaJus, Opossums, Pacas, and others. We are very proud of our accomplishments and appreciate your visit as it helps support our reforestation efforts.
See you soon, Pura Vida!
